Pride and Prejudice in Johannesburg
Born out of resistance, has Johannesburg Pride evolved into a capitalist, middle class, mostly-white affair? This episode, we speak to Bev Ditsie who attended the first ever Pride in Jo’burg in 1990 and Kwezilomso Mbandazayo who was so fed with Johannesburg Pride that she started a spin off; the Johannesburg People’s Pride. We also speak to activists with the One in Nine campaign who tried to protest the Johannesburg Pride and faced abuse from within their community for doing so and Kaye Ally, the current organiser for Johannesburg Pride.
